Youth Environmental Leadership Summit

I was hired to organize the first EVER Payette Children's Forest Environmental Leadership Summit.

What is  the Payette Children's Forest Environmental Leadership Summit?

Well...Aside from being a mouth full it is was a  2-day grant funded event that aimed to bring together like-minded youth from three Idaho counties.Over a weekend these youth developed leadership skills, learned about ongoing conservation efforts in Idaho, and obtained the tools they need to make an impact in their own communities.

Workshop Style

We offered a choose your own adventure workshop style education session to kick off the event. Students were given a list of hands on classes to choose from letting their interest guide them. There were two disting sessons with differing themes. Session A was all about life skills such as leadership and public speaking and Session B introduced the participants to different conservation efforts happening around the state.

Project Based

Other than the workshop sessions the remainder of the summit was project based.  Before arrival the students were tasked to think about environmental or conservation issues in their own communities and brainstorm how they can help solve those problems. During day two of the summit the students were grouped regionally to discuss these issues and choose one to come up with a potential solution using information gleaned from the workshops the day before. This all culminated in short presentations that wrapped up our time together.

Everything above this sentance were plans before Covid-19 changed the world as we know it.
