AmeriCorps Placement
University of Idaho Extension, Valley County, and Palouse Clearwater Environmental Institute
This page is dedicate to the work I did as an AmeriCorps placement. My role was an environmental educator as well as a community outreach facilitator. Check out my blog for reflections on my experiences as an AmeriCorps member.

Maker Space
This is one of the more innovative projects that I worked on during my time with the Valley County Extension office. Facilitating a maker space is all about fostering creativity while loosening the structure of a traditional classroom. It is NOT about step by step instructions or lectures but about equipping students with skills necessary to make their ideas come to life.
Discoverers Club
Partnering with the Donnelly Library and a fellow local AmeriCorps member I brought inquiry based curriculum and fun to Donelly After-school Program. See blog posts for a little more insight into this program.

CAP
Bringing experiential science exploration to the Cascade After-school Program!

4-H
I served as a mentor during the 2019 4-H Fair!

Envirothon
I was invited to be a coach to the Cascade High School's Envirothon team. Weekly study sessions during their lunch period culminated in a two day competition in Challis, ID. We came in 5th place!
Idaho River Rendezvous
As a river guide, scientist, and an environmental educator I was thrilled to bring my expertise to this event. Teaching fellow guides ecology as well as techniques on how to connect river guests with the natural world.

Come back for updates! This page is still in the works!

Showcase of Work
Toy Take Apart
Ever wonder what makes that toy you love tick? We did, and we found out! For this maker session I gave the students simple safety instructions and let them explore some toys that were donated to us. Eventually making franken-toys with different toy parts. This day was all about exploration and skill building.

Bike Blender
Some days are all about exploration and some days have a theme. We spent three sessions working with a local bike mechanic building a bike blender. We showcased our hard work at the County Fair where the public was invited to make themselves a smoothie!
Beaver Drop
This activity explores wildlife biology and physics wrapped up into an engineering challenge.

Students are told the story of Idaho's famous skydiving beavers, learn about beaver ecology, and then are challenged to construct a vessel that will safely transport their "beaver" to the ground from a height.
